Andrew "Staz" Staszewski
Andrew "Staz" Staszewski, lost his battle with cancer on April 27, at 9:30 p.m. Born April 23, 1983, Staz was only 23 year and 4 days old.
Andrew was diagnosed with
osteosarcoma in 2005. Osteosarcoma is a form of aggressive bone
cancer and is very rare for someone Andrew's age. Andy underwent
chemotherapy treatments at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
Even though Andy was 22-years-old when he was diagnosed with the
cancer, the foremost experts in this type of cancer were located at
CHOP.
Andrew was a 2001 graduate of Collingswood High School. He was a charter member of the Collingswood Fire Explorer program at the age of 14 years. He was a Firefighter/EMT and a member of FMBA Local #108.
In addition to his love for the fire service, Staz loved riding his Harley-Davidson Motorcycle and was a Charter Member of the Camden County Chapter of the Warthogs Motorcycle Club in New Jersey.
Andrew's brother firemen held a head shaving fund-raising event in October of 2005 to show support for Andy who was losing his hair due to the chemotherapy.
